Hawaiian Luau

HAWAIIAN LUAU

Welcome guests with a personalized luau party banner with an "aloha" and a kiss on the cheek. Hand a lei to all guests, and a silk flower for the women to put in their hair.
Be sure to have a personalized hawaiian luau sign to greet the party-goers.
Other nice touches are grass skirts to wear or as table decorations. Grass skirts can be made with green crepe paper attached to a waistband made of trimmed brown paper bag.
If creativity isn't your forte, you can check out these grass skirts. The night isn't complete without getting the men to wear a coconut bra just for fun!

  • Luau Party Decorations Think balmy and exotic! Bright and colorful is sure to set a tropical ambiance for your hawaiian lua. Palm fronds and palm trees should line the area. You can create grass huts out of grocery bags by cutting it into thin strips, and hanging on a card table. Be sure to cover your patio umbrellas and tables with raffia. You can purchase raffia in most craft supply stores or see this style.

  • You can also use a tropical hawaiian lua scene that covers a long wall. Fishnets and seashells are a great accent. You will want to make sure you have plenty of tropical flowers, whether fresh or silk. Line the area with Hawaiian themed posters, brightly colored fish or birds to create an eye-catching and fun atmosphere. You can also choose to use a sandbox or create a sandy area, complete with beach towels and chairs. Palm tree pinatas are a great idea for a luau party, and add to the festive hawaiian lua atmosphere. The table decor can include tiki statues. A nice idea is to fill a blow up raft with water, and place votives or tropical flowers inside. For the evening ambiance, tiki torches are a must, as well as lanterns or patio lights to create a perfect tropical Polynesian ambiance.

  • Luau Costume/Dress Attire  Hawaiian flowered shirt and grass skirt. Guests may also choose to wear sarongs, sandles, or beachcomber hats. Women get more accesories, with flowers in their hair and shell jewelry.
  • Hawaiian Luau Party Games Get your camera ready! A limbo contest is probably the most well known tropical theme game, so be sure to include it in the festivities! You can create a limbo contest by using bamboo sticks or using appropriately sized sticks from your back yard. Hula contests are also great fun. It's easy planning and everyone is a closet "hula-ist." A Pearl and Shell game is great fun for the more analytical guest. You will have three shells, and underneath one, you will have a pearl (or whatever item you choose). It's kind of like a magic trick or card game. The dealer moves the three shells around, and the guest chooses which one has the pearl inside. Another creative game is to split the guests into several groups. Purchase floral cloth fabrics for your tropical theme, and give the fabric to each group. The group has to make the most creative attire possible within five minutes. Examples of attire include skirts, headbands, Speedos... whatever they can imagine!
  • Music Hawaiian & Caribbean music should be played in the background. Reggae and Carribbean music are also good to add to the mix. Even though Jimmy Buffett, isn't technically Pacific Rim, he is well known for a tropical paradise theme!
